Terms of Use

SideEyeMath gives you free calculators and plain-language explanations so you can check the math before you sign something expensive. In exchange, you agree that our numbers are estimates, not advice; that the decisions you make are yours; and that a free website's liability to you is capped at what you paid for it — rounded up, generously, to $100. The long version follows, and unlike most terms pages, it's written to be read.

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and SideEyeMath ("we," "us"), the independently operated publisher of sideeyemath.com. By using the site, you accept them. If we change them, the effective date above changes, and material changes will be noted conspicuously on the site; continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. If you don't agree with these terms, the remedy is simple and free: don't use the site.

This site provides calculators and educational content about consumer finance topics: vehicle purchases, loans, and mortgages. Everything on it is general information, not financial, legal, tax, or investment advice. We are not a lender, dealer, broker, financial advisor, accountant, or law firm; no advisor–client, fiduciary, or professional relationship is created by your use of the site, no matter how many calculators you run. Content is not a recommendation to buy, sell, finance, refinance, or sign anything.

For decisions that matter, consult the people with actual duties to you and actual knowledge of your situation: your lender, your state DMV, a licensed financial advisor, a CPA, or an attorney.

Our calculators use simplified models of genuinely complicated things. State and local tax rates, trade-in credit rules, fee caps, and lender practices change constantly, vary by locality and transaction, and are applied by humans who have their own ideas. We work hard to keep the data current and we publish what we've verified — but we do not warrant that any figure, rate, rule, or explanation is accurate, complete, or current, and we have no obligation to update any particular page. Your actual deal — the contract in front of you — is the only set of numbers that legally matters. Read it. That's the whole point of this site.

You are responsible for how you use what you find here. Any action you take based on the site's calculators or content — signing, financing, trading in, refinancing, recasting, walking away — is your decision and your responsibility, made at your own risk.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the site and to print or save calculator results for your own personal, non-commercial use — that's what the print button is for. You agree not to: use the site for any unlawful purpose; interfere with its operation or security; access the site by automated means in a manner inconsistent with our robots.txt (automated indexing consistent with it — by search engines and AI assistants alike — is welcome); republish, resell, or redistribute our content or data compilations wholesale; or misrepresent your affiliation with us.

Two things are expressly fine. Quoting brief excerpts with attribution and a link — that's just the web working. And citing our data: if you're a journalist, researcher, educator, or anyone making a point, you may reproduce portions of our data — a ranking, a state's figures, a comparison — with attribution to SideEyeMath and a link to the page it came from. We verified it so it could be cited. What this doesn't cover is mirroring entire pages or republishing the dataset as a whole; that's the wholesale line above.

The site's content — text, explanations, state guides, calculator design, data compilations, the SideEyeMath name, and the raised eyebrow — is owned by us or licensed to us and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. Except for the personal-use license above, no rights are granted. If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, email squint@sideeyemath.com with the specifics and we will respond promptly.

Some links on the site are or may become affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you click them or buy something through them. They are labeled ("Sponsored") where they appear, because the FTC requires it and because you deserve to know. Commissions never change the math we show you — the calculators compute what they compute regardless of who pays us. Affiliate offers come from third parties: we don't endorse them, guarantee their offers, or participate in your transaction with them, and their own terms and privacy policies govern anything you do on their sites.

Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or practices. A link is not an endorsement.

The site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including, without limitation, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, and availability. We don't warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that defects will be corrected. Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of certain implied warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.

To the maximum extent permitted by law: we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost savings, or lost data, arising out of or relating to the site or its content — even if we've been advised such damages are possible, and regardless of the theory of liability. Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the site is capped at one hundred U.S. dollars ($100) — which, we'd note, is $100 more than the site costs. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations of liability; in those, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law allows. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

If your misuse of the site — violating these terms or the law — draws a third-party claim against us, you agree to indemnify us for the resulting damages, losses, and reasonable expenses, including attorneys' fees. Use the calculators as intended and this section will never matter.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the site — calculators, pages, features — at any time, without notice or liability. It's a free service; we intend to keep improving it, but we can't promise any particular tool will exist forever.

These terms, and any dispute arising out of or relating to the site, are governed by the laws of the State of New Hampshire, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any such dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Hampshire, and you and we each consent to their jurisdiction. Live free or read the fine print — ideally both.

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest remain in effect, and the unenforceable provision is replaced by an enforceable one that comes closest to its intent. Our not enforcing a provision today doesn't waive our right to enforce it tomorrow. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the site. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the site.
